The Calf and and foot are
generally very forgiving and even though the muscles here will tighten from over
use and exertion, they will only cause you pain when the tightness exceeds a
very high pain threshold. This is the very reason why these muscles tend
to accumulate such a high level of tightness before relief is sought.
Similar to the way the muscles of the forearm control the hand, the muscles of
the lower leg control the foot. So, it is understandable that the
tightness 'collected' in the calf and anterior muscles is a result of the way
the foot is used.
