The Lower Back and the Glutes (Buns)

The lower back is the most important junction in the body since it is where the upper body is linked with the lower body. But it is not simply where the upper fixes with the lower. It is a very complex junction that also forms a moveable joint, the Sacroiliac joint, where the backbone meets the Pelvis. The S.I. joint's movement is very subtle, but together with the flexibility of the backbone and the hip joint of the upper leg, we have the flexibility to touch our toes and turn at the waist.
There are layers and layers of muscles holding the low back and gluteal areas together enabling complex movement. Over time and for various reasons some or all of these muscles may tighten and start to restrict movement and even place pressure on nerves leading out of the backbone. Now there two potential layers of pain, one in the tightening muscles themselves and the other is pain in remote areas that the pressured nerves lead to.

To restore the muscle and other soft tissue to their normal healthy state, so the pain is relieved and range of motion is regained, the tightening process must be reversed with treatment such as Trigger Point Therapy, and maintained with the use of correct stretches and exercises.

This section was created to direct you to directions, pictures and video clips that will describe, and demonstrate the various stretches and exercises that will help you maintain the healthy condition and mobility of your low back, abdominal and gluteal areas.
